Acne comes in different sizes and shapes, and its severity differs from mild to very severe. A typical regimen works perfectly to fight moderate to light acne, but severe acne may require more specialized treatment. Acne Vulgaris is the common form of acne which comprises several types of pimples. It is important to know the kinds of spots or pimples one has to be able to find the right medication tailored for each specific acne pimple.
Mild to moderate acne comprises of these acne pimples;
Whiteheads
These are a result of complete blocking and subsequent trapping of oil, dead skin cells and bacteria in the skin. They feature a white manifestation on the surface. These types of acne pimples always appear like they are begging to be popped. But you shouldn’t be tempted to pop them, because they can cause permanent scarring to the affected area. Whiteheads have a short life cycle.
Blackheads
This type of acne pimple occurs as a result of a partially blocked pore, which allows some of the trapped dead skin cells, bacteria and oil (sebum) to drain to the unaffected skin surface. The black color is caused by the reaction between melanin (skin’s pigment) and oxygen found in the air. Blackheads appear more stable and normally take a longer time to clear.
Papules
The third common acne pimple is known as papules. They are inflamed, appear red, gentle and have no head. It is always advisable not to squeeze or disturb a papule as it will only exacerbate scarring.
Pustules
This can be confused for a whitehead acne pimple, but it forms as a red circle featuring a white or yellow center. Like all other kinds of acne pimples, it is always advisable not to squeeze a pustule as it will do you more harm than good. Equally, avoid touching the areas with the pimples unnecessarily, to avoid spreading the opportunistic skin bacteria.
